Major fish landings of the gears Hand-line and Long-line at four main landing centres (FLCs) in South Andaman, India

ABSTRACT

Hand and Long-line are most important commercial fishing gears in selective capture fisheries of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Visit was carried out at four fish landing centres (FLCs) of South Andaman viz., Junglighat (n=692), Dignabad (n=169), Wandoor (n=107) and Guptapara (n=129) to investigate the major fish landings. Total fishing-trips of Hand and Long-line were 1495 and 1493 and total landings of same were 775.9tons and 458.7tons respectively. The maximum landing of Hand-line(97.7%) and Long-line(98.3%) occurred at Junglighat. The hand-liners explored in 35 potential fishing grounds(PFG) and the long-liners explored in 32 PFG around the coast of ANIs. The maximum catch of both the gears occurred in North Andaman sector i.e. 54.2% and 38% and the minimum catch of the same occurred at Little Andaman i.e. 5.7% and 8.6% respectively. The fishes of family Serranidae landed majorly(171.8tons) through Hand-liners and long-liners (183.4tons) with an average of 34.0±6.4tons/ year and 36.7±2.5tons/year respectively. The validation experiments of Hand-line (n=31) and Long-line (n=22) were carried out at each PFZ and Non-PFZ. The total fish catch of Hand-line at PFZ and Non-PFZ were 5470kgs and 1810kgs & Long-line of the same were 4570kgs and 1643kgs respectively. It was observed that there was a statistically significant difference in the fish caught between PFZ and non-PFZ of hand-line (x2=14.53, P=0.00014) and long-line (x2=152.69, P<0.00001). PFZ forecasts proved to be an excellent source for deriving economic benefits and a potent tool in harvesting the under-exploited fishery resources of ANI.

अंडमान और निकोबार आइसलैंड की सेलेक्टिव कैप्चर फिशरीज़ में हैंड और लॉन्ग-लाइन सबसे ज़रूरी कमर्शियल फिशिंग गियर हैं। साउथ अंडमान के चार फिश लैंडिंग सेंटर (FLCs) यानी जंगलीघाट (n=692), डिग्नाबाद (n=169), वंडूर (n=107) और गुप्तापारा (n=129) का दौरा किया गया ताकि मुख्य फिश लैंडिंग की जांच की जा सके। हैंड और लॉन्ग-लाइन की कुल फिशिंग ट्रिप 1495 और 1493 थीं और उनकी कुल लैंडिंग क्रमशः 775.9 टन और 458.7 टन थी। हैंड-लाइन (97.7%) और लॉन्ग-लाइन (98.3%) की सबसे ज़्यादा लैंडिंग जंगलीघाट में हुई। हैंड-लाइनर्स को 35 संभावित फिशिंग ग्राउंड (PFG) में और लॉन्ग-लाइनर्स को ANIs के तट के आसपास 32 PFG में खोजा गया। दोनों गियर्स की सबसे ज़्यादा पकड़ नॉर्थ अंडमान सेक्टर में हुई, यानी 54.2% और 38% और सबसे कम पकड़ लिटिल अंडमान में हुई, यानी क्रम से 5.7% और 8.6%। सेरानिडे फ़ैमिली की मछलियाँ मुख्य रूप से (171.8 टन) हैंड-लाइनर्स और लॉन्ग-लाइनर्स (183.4 टन) के ज़रिए पकड़ी गईं, जिनका औसत क्रम से 34.0±6.4 टन/साल और 36.7±2.5 टन/साल था। हैंड-लाइन (n=31) और लॉन्ग-लाइन (n=22) के वैलिडेशन एक्सपेरिमेंट हर PFZ और नॉन-PFZ पर किए गए। PFZ और नॉन-PFZ में हैंड-लाइन की कुल पकड़ 5470kgs और 1810kgs थी और लॉन्ग-लाइन की कुल पकड़ क्रम से 4570kgs और 1643kgs थी। यह देखा गया कि PFZ और नॉन-PFZ के बीच हैंड-लाइन (x2=14.53, P=0.00014) और लॉन्ग-लाइन (x2=152.69, P<0.00001) से पकड़ी गई मछलियों में स्टैटिस्टिकली बड़ा अंतर था। PFZ फोरकास्ट आर्थिक फ़ायदे पाने का एक बहुत अच्छा ज़रिया और ANI के कम इस्तेमाल किए गए मछली पालन रिसोर्स को इकट्ठा करने का एक असरदार तरीका साबित हुआ।
