Occurrence and seasonal variation of a new parasite species (Family-Hemiuridae) in
fresh water fish, Amphipnous cuchia

ABSTRACT
The present paper deals with the study of the Occurrence and Seasonal Variation of a new digenetic trematode parasite,
Genarchopsis varunai sp. nov., belonging to the family Hemiuridae, in the intestine of the freshwater fish Amphipnous cuchia
from the River Varuna (tributary of the River Ganges), Varanasi. About 401 specimens of Amphipnous cuchia were examined, of
which 79 were infected, and 136 mature parasites were collected from March 2024 to February 2025. In this paper, the key to the
species of the genus Genarchopsis is also provided
सारांश
प्रस्तुत शोधपत्र एक नए द्विजनक ट्रेमेटोड परजीवी — Genarchopsis varunai sp. nov. — की उपस्थिति एवं मौसमी विविधता के अध्ययन से संबंधित है। यह परजीवी Hemiuridae कुल से संबंधित है और इसे वाराणसी की वरुणा नदी (गंगा नदी की सहायक नदी) से प्राप्त मीठे पानी की मछली Amphipnous cuchia की आँत में पाया गया है।
मार्च 2024 से फरवरी 2025 के बीच Amphipnous cuchia के कुल 401 नमूनों की जाँच की गई, जिनमें से 79 संक्रमित पाए गए और 136 परिपक्व परजीवी संग्रहित किए गए।
इस शोधपत्र में Genarchopsis वंश की प्रजातियों की पहचान हेतु एक कुंजी (Key to Species) भी प्रस्तुत की गई है।
