Physalis pruinosa : A New Distributional record to Wardha district, Maharashtra, India

ABSTRACT

The research deals with new distribution of a plant species and its addition to the Angiospermic flora of Wardha district Maharashtra state, India along with the detailed description, phenology and ecology. A comprehensive review of standard regional floras, monographs, and recent literature revealed that this species has not been previously reported from Wardha, nor listed in the classical works of Acharya and Ramteke & Srinivasu on the district flora. Notably, contemporary studies consider Physalis pruinosa to be invasive or potentially naturalized, owing to its rapid establishment in disturbed sites, agricultural margins, and open waste lands. Its presence in Wardha therefore indicates a recent range expansion within Vidarbha region of Maharashtra. During the regular exploration of the study area, samples of Physalis pruinosa of family Solanaceae were collected. After microscopic observation and critical review of the available references, this species is found to be a new distributional record to the Wardha district of Maharashtra.

सारांश

यह शोध महाराष्ट्र राज्य के वर्धा जिले की आवृतबीजी (Angiospermic) वनस्पति में एक नई पौध प्रजाति के वितरण अभिलेख तथा उसके समावेशन से संबंधित है। अध्ययन में इस प्रजाति का विस्तृत वर्णन, पुष्पन एवं फलन काल (Phenology) तथा पारिस्थितिकी (Ecology) का विवरण प्रस्तुत किया गया है। क्षेत्रीय वनस्पति ग्रंथों (Floras), मोनोग्राफों तथा नवीन वैज्ञानिक साहित्य की व्यापक समीक्षा से यह ज्ञात हुआ कि इस प्रजाति का वर्धा जिले से पूर्व में कोई अभिलेख उपलब्ध नहीं था। साथ ही, जिले की वनस्पति पर आधारित आचार्य तथा रामटेके एवं श्रीनिवासु के पारंपरिक कार्यों में भी इस प्रजाति का उल्लेख नहीं मिलता है। उल्लेखनीय है कि वर्तमान अध्ययनों में Physalis pruinosa को एक आक्रामक (Invasive) अथवा संभावित रूप से प्राकृतिककृत (Naturalized) प्रजाति माना गया है, क्योंकि यह विक्षुब्ध स्थलों (Disturbed Sites), कृषि क्षेत्र की सीमाओं तथा खुले परती एवं अपशिष्ट भूभागों में तीव्रता से स्थापित हो जाती है। अतः वर्धा जिले में इसकी उपस्थिति महाराष्ट्र के विदर्भ क्षेत्र में इसके हालिया विस्तार (Range Expansion) का संकेत देती है। अध्ययन क्षेत्र के नियमित सर्वेक्षण के दौरान Solanaceae कुल से संबंधित Physalis pruinosa के नमूने एकत्रित किए गए। सूक्ष्मदर्शीय (Microscopic) परीक्षण तथा उपलब्ध संदर्भ साहित्य की गहन समीक्षा के उपरांत यह पुष्टि हुई कि यह प्रजाति महाराष्ट्र के वर्धा जिले के लिए एक नया वितरण अभिलेख (New Distributional Record) है। इस प्रकार, यह खोज जिले की वनस्पति विविधता संबंधी ज्ञान में महत्वपूर्ण योगदान प्रदान करती है।
